Halloumi Fries with Honey, Chili Flakes & Sesame

My Halloumi fries with honey, chili flakes and sesame became a favorite fast. I made it once and immediately started getting requests to make it again. You’ll want to try this one. Halloumi cheese is a semi-soft goat or sheep milk cheese. It has a very high melting point so it is great to fry or grill. The first time I had it was at a Greek restaurant and I loved it. Think of it as a Greek substitute for Mozzarella sticks only you don’t need to do the whole breading station. The cheese sticks fry up on its own without any coating.

You can buy the cheese in packages and all you have to do is slice it into “fries”. I cut them about 3/4 inch thick for this recipe.

Once you cut the cheese, you’ll want to pat it dry with paper towels to absorb any moisture. This will help the cheese get golden brown when pan fried.

Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large non-stick frying pan until very hot. Add the Halloumi fries and cook until golden brown. Flip and continue browning on all sides. In total, you’ll fry them for about 5 minutes.

Place them on a platter and make your dressing.

The dressing for these “fries” couldn’t be easier to make. You simply mix the honey and chili flakes in a small bowl. That’s it. Go ahead and drizzle all over the Halloumi and then sprinkle with the sesame seeds which adds texture to this dish.

Halloumi is very salty so by drizzling it with the honey and adding the chili flakes and sesame seeds, you get that whole “sweet, salty and slightly crunchy” thing going on.
