What is football or Super Bowl Sunday without wings? They are required at my parties and I try to come up with something new every year. This year, I played with one of my new favorite ingredients, Momofuku Chili Crunch. It is a crunchy chili oil packed with sesame seeds and chili flakes. I mixed this spicy condiment with sweet and thick hoisin sauce for the perfect sweet and spicy mix. The sprinkle of flaky salt is the perfect finish. You’ll want to try my Momofuku & Hoisin Baked Wings at your next event.
The Momofuku is pretty spicy so taste as you go. I’d start with a tablespoon and work your way up depending on how hot you like your wings. I’d even serve some of this on the side for those nuts that aren’t happy until they are bright red and sweating!!! LOL (You know who you are!) I’ve used this condiment in other recipes like my Healthier Orange Chicken so check that out too.
Let’s get started with this recipe. First, preheat your oven to a high 410 degrees F. Next, line a baking sheet with foil and top with a rack. Spray that rack with cooking spray to keep the chicken from sticking. The addition of the foil to the baking sheet will make clean up so much easier.
Next, put all your chicken in a large bowl and drizzle with the oil. Add salt and pepper and toss to coat all the chicken. Place the chicken on the prepared rack and put in the oven for 45 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Meanwhile, you’ll make your sauce. Add your hoisin sauce and chili crunch to a small bowl and mix. Put in the microwave in 15 second intervals until very hot (about one minute total). Stir in between each microwave blast. When the chicken is done, remove from the oven and place the chicken in a clean, large bowl.
Add the sauce to the chicken and toss to coat. Make sure all the chicken pieces are evenly coated with that sticky glaze. If you are not serving right away, you could put these chicken wings back on the rack and hold them in a 200 degree oven for up to 1/2 hour and then serve to your guests.
Plate your wings and sprinkle them with toasted sesame seeds, the chopped green onion and a sprinkle of flaky salt for the perfect finish. I’d serve these with a ton of napkins or wet naps. They go fast, so be sure to make plenty of them. The men in my life devour these.
