ingredients

13 Oz. – 1 Lb. Store bought pizza dough

4 Slices Ham diced

4 Slices Turkey diced

4 Slices Swiss cheese diced

1 Small Bunch of Broccoli, stems peeled and the broccoli cut into small pieces

Egg

2 Tbsp. Everything Bagel Seasoning

¼ Cup Honey

¼ Cup Dijon Mustard

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
2. Roll out pizza dough and trim edges so you have an even square/rectangle. Cut the dough into 4 even pieces. Fill the bottom half of each square with equal amounts of ham, turkey, Swiss and and broccoli.

3. Fold over the dough and pinch and fold the edges to enclose the pastry. Beat the egg with a small amount of water in a dish and brush each pastry package with the egg. Cut small vents in the top of each pastry. Sprinkle with the Everything Bagel Seasoning.

4. Put on a silpat or parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake for about 18 – 20 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is melted.

5. Mix honey and mustard in a small bowl and serve on the side. Enjoy!

NOTES:  This is a fast, easy and oh so flexible dinner, lunch or snack!  You can fill pizza dough with just about anything and get a warm, filling meal.  The cheese acts as the glue and keeps everything together and gives you that ooey-gooey filling we all love.

You can buy balls of dough at Trader Joes, cans of Pillsbury Pizza dough at the supermarket or go to your local pizzeria and pick up dough there.  Usually dough will be sold as a pound but the cans of dough at the supermarket are 13.5 Oz. and that is just fine for four of these calzones (Or should I say “hot pockets”?).

You can make these stuffed with mozzarella, sausage, pepperoni and tomato sauce, or packed with just veggies and cheese.  There is no reason to precook your broccoli in this recipe.  Because it is chopped up, it cooks up just fine in the oven.

I really love the everything bagel seasoning on top (great flavor and texture) and the honey mustard dipping sauce is perfect with this.  I’d definitely use this with kids and have them choose what they want inside their own calzone.  They can assist with the filling, pinching of dough and the egg wash and sprinkling of seasoning.  They’ll also love eating these…they are really good!
