The Sloe Gin Fizz! This is such a fun “throw back” cocktail. It had its moment in the sun back in the 80s but I haven’t seen it on a cocktail menu in years. So, I dug up the recipe and here it is in all its glory. I can’t begin to tell you how many of these I had when hanging with friends. Yes, it is sugary and not a real strong drink but it comes with so many great memories, it had to be on the blog.
It’s easy to make once you track down the sloe gin and whip up the simple syrup (Which, by the way, can be used in all kinds of cocktails and will hold in the refrigerator indefinitely). If you don’t have a cocktail shaker you can always add all the ingredients to the glass and stir, then add the ice and then add the club soda to get a little fizz going. But the shaking gives it a nice foamy top and looks great when you serve it. (Think summer by the pool!)
To make the simple syrup, just put equal parts of water and sugar in a pot on the stove and bring to a boil to dissolve the sugar. Stir a few times. Remove from the heat and let cool. Then, refrigerate until you are ready to use it.
In a shaker, add ice, the sloe gin, lemon juice and simple syrup. Shake vigoriously. Pour into a chilled glass with ice. Top with club soda to get fizzy and garnish with a lemon wheel. There you have it. Enjoy.
