Individual calzones – the original “hot pockets” is a fast, easy and oh so flexible dinner, lunch or snack option! You can fill pizza dough with just about anything and get a warm, filling meal. The cheese acts as the glue and keeps everything together and gives you that ooey-gooey filling we all love.
You can make these stuffed with mozzarella, sausage, pepperoni and tomato sauce, or packed with just veggies and cheese. It is a great way to use up leftovers. There is no reason to precook your broccoli in this recipe. Because it is chopped up, it cooks up just fine in the oven.
I really love the everything bagel seasoning on top (great flavor and texture) and the honey mustard dipping sauce is perfect with this. I’d definitely use this with kids and have them choose what they want inside their own calzone. They can assist with the filling, pinching of dough and the egg wash and sprinkling of seasoning. They’ll also love eating these…they are really good!
To get started, preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. Chop up all your fillings into a small dice.
Roll out pizza dough and trim edges so you have an even square/rectangle. Cut the dough into 4 even pieces. Place on a baking sheet covered with a silpat or lined with parchment paper.
Fill the bottom half of each square with equal amounts of ham, turkey, Swiss and and broccoli. OR with any fillings you have choosen.
Fold over the dough and pinch and fold the edges to enclose the pastry. Beat the egg with a small amount of water in a dish and brush each pastry package with the egg. Cut small vents in the top of each pastry.
Sprinkle with the Everything Bagel Seasoning.
