ingredients

Ice cubes for drink

2 Oz. sloe gin

1 Oz. lemon juice

1 Tsp. simple syrup

1 cup ice to mix drink

4 Oz. club soda

1 slice lemon

DIRECTIONS

1. Make the simple syrup. Add equal amounts of sugar and water and heat on the stovetop until the sugar is completely dissolved. Stir occasionally. Put aside until cool and then refrigerate until ready to make your drink. You can mix ½ cup of sugar and ½ cup of water and you’ll have a nice supply for future drinks.
2. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Put in the freezer to chill.
3. Place the ice in a cocktail shaker and add the sloe gin, lemon juice and simple syrup. Cover the shaker with its top or another shaker and shake well to mix the liquids and chill them too. Strain into the prepared, chilled glass. Stir in the club soda and garnish with a slice of lemon.

NOTE: This is such a fun “throw back” cocktail. It had its moment in the sun back in the 80s but I haven’t seen it on a cocktail menu in years. So, I dug up the recipe and here it is in all its glory. It’s easy to make once you track down the sloe gin and whip up the simple syrup (which, by the way, can be used in all kinds of cocktails and will hold in the refrigerator indefinitely). If you don’t have a cocktail shaker you can always add all the ingredients to the glass and stir, add ice and then add the club soda but the shaking gives it a nice foamy top and looks great when you serve it. (Think summer by the pool!) I think everyone should own a cocktail shaker and if you are hosting happy hours, you are going to need one eventually. I got mine at Amazon.com. The price was good and my choice came with all the essentials a bartender needs.
